The Waterford Whiskey Society is delighted to announce that their third tasting for 2023 will take place at REVOLUTION BAR in Waterford as well as online over ZOOM on Tuesday the 28th of March at 7:30 pm.
This month we turn our attention to one of the newer distilleries in Ireland, Skellig Six18 Distillery which is an independently owned Irish Distillery located on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean on the rugged Skellig Coastline in Cahersiveen, Co. Kerry. The tasting will be led by Cathal O’Connor their Commercial Operations Manager.
The first Irish Whiskey expressions from the Skellig Six18 Distillery were launched in December 2022 – Skellig Small Batch Irish Whiskey PX Sherry Cask Finish, and Skellig Triple Cask Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey. These premium whiskeys are Atlantic Aged in Cahersiveen, with the choice of casks and style of whiskey influenced by centuries of maritime trade between the Skellig Coast & Europe, the Atlantic peatlands which surround the distillery, and the uniqueness of the Single Pot Still style of whiskey to Ireland.
During this first whiskey society tasting run by Skellig Six18, the focus will be on Skellig Triple Cask Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey as we taste through the three component whiskeys which make up this first release by the Skellig Six18 Distillery. We will also be running through the Skellig Small Batch Irish Whiskey, and an unreleased cask strength version of the Skellig Triple Cask Single Pot Still, as Skellig Six18 give us a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the maturation taking place in Cahersiveen currently, and the plans for the imminent installation of their own whiskey plant on-site.”
The lineup of whiskies for this event will be as follows:
- Skellig Small Batch 40%
- Skellig Triple Cask 43%
- Skellig Triple Cask – PX component 50%
- Skellig Triple Cask – Peated Scotch component 50%
- Skellig Triple Cask – Ex-Bourbon component 50%
- Skellig Triple Cask – Cask Strength Version 59%
